Xochitl Torres Small

NM-2 (D)
Current office holder: Steve Pearce (R)
Growing up in Las Cruces, Xochitl learned the value of hard work, grit, and determination from her parents, a public school teacher and a social worker. They never failed to go the extra mile and find solutions for those they worked with, and they continue to live their lives in pursuit of service to others. Xochitl used that same approach when she worked for Senator Tom Udall, where she collaborated with local government, farmers, developers, and conservationists to protect New Mexico's water. She uses it now in her work as a water attorney, and she pledges to bring it with her to Congress as well. Her number one priority will always be New Mexico's hardworking families.
How does Xochitl align with Project 100's values?
  • Economic Opportunity: Xochitl will be a strong advocate for public education and will fight to ensure that every student - regardless of income, location, or background - has access to an excellent education. She believes quality education will allow us to break the cycle of poverty and enhance our communities, and she will fight for increased funding for public schools, increased funding for English language learning programs, better pay for teachers, and universal pre-K. She will fight for living wages for hard working New Mexicans and will work with stakeholders to provide incentives to attract businesses that offer good-paying jobs. She will continue fighting for funding for workforce training and development programs.
  • Equal Treatment Under the Law: The candidate's stance on this issue area is currently unknown.
  • Healthy People & Communities: Xochitl believes everyone should have access to quality, affordable health care. She is fed up with politicians in Washington playing games with our health care and will always put southern New Mexicans first, which means taking on pharmaceutical companies to lower the price of prescription drugs, supporting Veterans by working to fix the VA, and protecting and strengthening Medicare. She will also work to advocate for the health needs of rural communities, working across party lines to expand rural health care access by providing incentives for medical professionals.
