Tami Walker

TX-10 (D)
Current office holder: Michael McCaul (R)
Tami is running for office because she's unhappy with the way the country's current leaders are handling all areas of concern. As a native Texan who has worked in legal and executive capacities in the state's energy, infrastructure, and engineering fields, Tami is particularly concerned about the economy and the environment. As a parent who also cared for her aging mother, Tami is also focused on education and health care.
How does Tami align with Project 100's values?
  • Economic Opportunity: Tami supports an Equal Pay Act. She's also interested in an infrastructure plan including light rail, repair of roads and bridges, drainage infrastructure for Houston, and sea walls. With tax reform incentives Tami hopes to encourage companies to manufacture in America, innovate, lessen their harmful emissions, and offer profit or stock sharing with emloyees. High schools should offer both job training and joint programs with colleges. Vouchers should be eliminated, and prekindergarten programs should be universal.
  • Equal Treatment Under the Law: Tami's stance on equality for all is strong. She would support legislation against descrimination of LGBTQ+ people. She also is concerned with the disproportionate sentencing of people of color and shooting of people of color by law enforcement. Environmental racism is another of her priorities. Tami focuses on voter rights and wants to make it easier to register to vote and to vote, especially for people in marginalized neighborhoods and those who are ex-felons. Immigration is also a key concern of Tami's. She seeks to end private detention centers and pass the DREAM Act. Migrant workers should have workers' compensation and other health and safety protections for a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Healthy People & Communities: Health care is a main concern for Tami. She would seek first to reauthorize C.H.I.P, which provides healthcare to almost 6 million children. Then, she'd seek an expanded single-payer Medicare system, stabilizing the ACA in the meantime. Tami is interested in protecting the environment, including approaching damaging but important oil and gas development with common sense reform and subsidizng family-owned organic farms. Tami supports the Second Amendment but offers several ways to strengthen gun laws, including closing the gun show loophole, making bump stocks and thirty-round magazines illegal, tightening background checks, voting no on Concealed Carry Reciprocity laws, renewing the Federal Assault Weapons Ban, and funding CDC research.
