House of Representatives
Congressmember Pingree never anticipated a life in politics. She was a mother and small business owner who served on the school board before being approached about running for State Senate in 1991. In 2008, she was elected to Congress, representing the 1st District of Maine. She currently sits on the powerful Appropriations Committee. She has fought to increase opportunities for working families, protect our veterans and worked to expand access to health care. She wrote and introduced the Local Farms, Food and Jobs Act, a package of reforms that make it easier for constituents to have access to healthy foods.
